Cruises from Barcelona make for some of the most unforgettable vacations you can imagine. Barcelona looks like a city that should be known for its architecture… and, naturally, it is. From monuments in Romanesque and Renaissance styles to Gothic spires and contemporary curves, there’s little surprise Barcelona was the creative playground of acclaimed architect Antoni Gaudí. But that’s just one reason why cruises out of Barcelona are so seductive. Barcelona’s a feast for the eyes and the palate, alike, and be sure not to miss the chance to try tapas as and visit spots like the La Rambla, Port Vell and especially Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia Cathedral. Fun beach bars overlooking the Mediterranean, sleek Spanish designer stores, and Gaudí’s surreal buildings make Barcelona, Spain a whimsical and unique place to visit. For a Mediterranean cruise, Spain is a great place to start — sample the good stuff on one of Carnival’s cruises from Barcelona.

Marseille is France’s second largest city, its largest port on the Mediterranean and — thanks in large part to Algerian immigration in the 1950s — a melting pot of people and cultures. Marseille’s also a place of striking contrasts: at the picturesque Vieux Port, not far from the iconic fishing boats are sleek pleasure craft. Dominating the harbor is the infamous Chateau d’If, the rocky prison from which Dumas’ Count of Monte Cristo escaped. Marseille is also your gateway to Provence. Explore the countryside around Arles and Avignon, as immortalized by Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse and Picasso.

Livorno is the coastal gateway to beautiful Tuscany, where you’ll find both fan-favorite Pisa and Florence, the cradle of the Renaissance. Florence houses some of the world’s greatest works of art, from masters like Leonardo da Vinci and Boticelli, plus Michelangelo’s David and the Duomo, whose terrace offers breathtaking views of the city’s red-tiled roofs and narrow medieval lanes. Then there’s Pisa, Florence’s rival for political power and a brash, commercial seafaring town that once rivaled the great maritime powers Venice and Genoa. Of course you’ll visit the Leaning Tower, but don’t stop there. Palazzo Agostini houses 12th century remains of Pisa’s city walls, and Piazza dei Cavalieri was consistently the center of Pisan history.

In ancient times it was said that all roads lead to Rome… but in your case, the seaport of Civitavecchia is your road to Rome. Get there and you’ll find out what made the place so popular. The Vatican’s Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo, the Colosseum with its lurid history, and the Trevi Fountain — where a tossed coin promises your return — are not to be missed on any visit to the so-called “Eternal City,” one of the cradles of civilization. Take a walking tour of Rome’s many historical landmarks and enjoy the lively sidewalk cafés, ending the day alla romana strolling through the atmospheric Centro Storico.

Not just one of Italy’s oldest cities, but among the world’s oldest, Naples and its surrounding area has over thousands of years contributed innovations to not only the culinary and visual arts, but the development of everything from language to music. Today, you’ll feel the friendly spirit of this sunny metropolis as you sample its historic sights, fabulous shopping galleria and irresistible cuisine. But don’t limit yourself to the city itself — Mount Vesuvius, the spectacular Amalfi Coast, and the romantic isle of Capri’s famous Blue Grotto are all just a short distance away. The well-known, buried city of Pompeii is an archeological wonder, and not far from Naples.

YOUR SHIP - The Carnival Freedom
Carnival Freedom has a message for you, and it’s “feel free to have fun!” Explore the ship and you’ll find food options galore, starting with two dining rooms, but definitely extending outdoors — there’s mouth-watering Guy Fieri burgers at Guy’s Burger Joint, plus the greatest tacos and burritos this side of the pier at BlueIguana Cantina. For delicious, but quick and easy, selections from the sea, get your chopsticks around all the good stuff at Bonsai Sushi Express.
For every great food spot, there’s a great place to enjoy drinks, too, from the toe-tapping Scott’s Piano Bar to the always-hoppin’ 70’s Nightclub. For the thirsty, libation hotspots include Alchemy Bar and the 50-yard-line of fun itself, SkyBox Sports Bar. Everybody’s favorite outdoor seaside bar is here… whether yours is the RedFrog Rum Bar or BlueIguana Tequila Bar. (Or hey, make it both!) The rum bar’s older brother, RedFrog Pub, features drinks, live music and traditional pub games. Topping off adult-time is Serenity — adult-only, of course — the retreat where total relaxation is not only encouraged, but pretty much required.
If you’re a kid, Carnival Freedom means you’re in for a treat. Not only will you find new friends at one of three youth spaces — like Camp Ocean — but you can splash around with them in one of our many pools, speed down a waterslide at Carnival WaterWorks, or once you dry off, challenge them to a round of mini-golf. Oh, and adults — don’t get jealous; your inner kid gets to do all this stuff too!
Up on stage is Playlist Productions, featuring songs you know… and dance moves you’ll soon be using. And for a chance to get up on stage yourself, there’s Hasbro, The Game Show, where kids of all ages — even you, grandma — compete in larger-than-life Hasbro games come to life!
And for the cherry on top… it’s actually called Cherry On Top. It’s the spot for something special, whether that something’s a little something sweet — or simply a little something to sweeten a special occasion.
