Insider Tip

On a Hurtigruten expedition cruise, you can hang a tag on your cabin door to say your towels and bed sheets don’t need changing, saving water and energy. You also won’t find items like plastic cups, plastic straws, or plastic cutlery on board any of their ships, since banning non-essential single-use plastic throughout the entire fleet in 2018. These are just a few of the ways that guests can contribute to Hurtigruten’s commitment to sustainability.

Accessible cabins are available for guests who require adapted bathrooms and other accessibility aids, and guests who use wheelchairs are welcome to bring theirs onboard, provided it meets the requirements of the Hurtigruten ship. It is recommended that guests with disabilities and mobility restrictions consider travelling with a companion who can assist them both onboard and onshore, due to the unique environment, operations, and safety requirements of an expedition cruise. Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if there are changes to the itinerary or excursions?

Every expedition cruise is unique, and is often at the mercy of the weather, the sea and ice conditoins. All routes and excursions are subject to change, especially when it comes to prioritising the safety of the guests and crew onboard. Any changes will be communicated with guests, and the Hurtigruten team will be available for any questions and concerns as a result of any changes or cancellations.

I’m travelling alone. Why do I need to pay a single supplement?

All voyage prices are based on two people travelling together and sharing one cabin, so any guests travelling alone will be required to pay a percentage of the total cabin rate. However, Hurtigruten does occassionally offer no single supplement offers, so just ask your cruise consultant about the latest specials.

What is Hurtigruten’s tipping policy?

On board Hurtigruten Expedition ships, it is not common practice or expected that guests should leave a tip. It is at the individual’s discretion should they wish to give a special thanks to the crew in the bars, restaurants, cabins and behind the scenes, in the form of gratuities. Should you wish to leave a tip, you can do so at Reception, with all tips being divided equally among all crew members after the voyage.
